Original Quilt order Art, Nan's Iris, 10" x 11", Nancy Turbitt Art

Nan's Iris is a 10" x 11" piece of original quilt art. It was completed in April of 2015. It is made as a quilt 'sandwich' with a backing fabric, cotton/poly batting and the front is made of batik and hand dyed cottons, fused with fusible web before stitching with rayon and cotton/poly threads. Some details were created with fabric markers and art order pens. It is finished with a fabric binding, has a sewn label, and it has my signature NT on the front and is signed in two places on the back. It comes ready to hang with a top sleeve and a wood rod with hook eye ends and a hanging wire.

Artist Statement: My mother had a knack for growing tall bearded iris. Her gardens were full of them in every imaginable color. In this work a basic purple iris reminds me of her.

This artwork is kept flat in a cupboard out of light and it comes from a smoke and mildew free studio.
