The story of a young orphan boy who dodges his new parents and strikes out on his own with a group of boys who find they are not as tough as they think. A great story that was immensely popular and critically acclaimed when it was first published. In fact, as we find out from order the dust jacket, McCloskey had wanted to illustrate this story every since he first read it as a young boy. His exuberant b&w drawings can be found throughout the book and make the story all that more enjoyable.
