When the Ocean meets the Earth. A strong combination of Black Lava beads and gorgeous Blue Coral makes this man Mala so irresistible. Earthy black lava provides the wearer with a sense of grounding and strength, while Blue Coral offers its calming and stabilising qualities. Since Blue coral originates in the ocean and Black Lave in the deep earth, their union symbolises balance between the Water and Earth elements, as well as the masculine and feminine in all of us. Being a man Mala it is light and shorter than our feminine Malas (see size). We recommend this Mala for anyone whose practice focuses on finding and living in balance.

This Mala is made of Blue Coral and Black Lava. It is finished off with metal bead. All beads are strung on blue nylon thread (100% vegan and strong). Attached at the end of the Mala is a handmade blue tassel which is a symbol of Lotus blossom and enlightenment. All accessories attached to the Mala are made of Sterling Silver (925).

LAVA STONE:
Lava stone is fantastic for stabilising and grounding the root chakra. This is because of the strong connection to the earth and its creation within the center of the Earth. It gives us strength and courage, promoting stability through times of change. It provides guidance and understanding in situations where we may need to "bounce back". Lava stone is very useful in dissolving anger. The porous properties of this stone make it a lovely diffuser for essential oils.

BLUE CORAL:
As the name suggests, Blue Coral Crystals have sea-related properties. They can be used safely with all water related animals, and on a larger environmental scale they also help with sea creature related conservation programmes. Blue Coral Crystals can be also used to help disorganised people, including children, helping them with both time management and responsibility.

We hand-knot this Mala with 94 beads (8mm). It hangs approximately 47cm till the edge of the pendant - the optimal Mala length for men.

What is a Mala?
A Mala (necklace in Sanskrit) is a string of prayer beads often used in Japa Meditation. We recite a mantras as we pass beads through our fingers. While practicing mantra doesn't require a Mala, it is a helpful kinaesthetic counting device, making sure we complete 108 cycles. It also adds a tactile dimension to our practice, with the sensation of beads between the fingers, keeping us awake and present. Bead order by bead, like steps on a stairway, walking us up, and taking us closer to god. Traditionally a Mala has 108 beads plus a larger guru bead. A wrist Mala often has 27, or 54 beads. These numbers are sacred in numerology. They all divide into each other and all have digits that add up to nine.

How to use a Mala for meditation?
Traditionally, as taught in the Bhakti tradition, you hold the Mala with your right hand, hanging over the third finger. You pass each bead between the thumb and the third finger, pulling bead by bead towards you. The index finger never touches the Mala as it is associated with ego. The third finger is believed to have a certain trigger point connected to the spine, which aids in maintaining a high level of energy during practice. There are typically knots between each bead making it easier to contact each bead. Counting should always begin with a bead next to the guru bead. With each bead you pass repeat your mantra. When arriving at the guru bead, do not count it, touch it or pass it. Instead, pause, bring your teacher to mind, Then flip the Mala around, and go back the other way starting a new cycle of 108 repetitions.

We use only natural gemstones beads, each with unique markings and shades, so each mala is unique and therefore may vary slightly from the picture.
