Description

Product Name: Very Large Jerry order Brown Two Handled Bean Pot 1994

Massive Jerry Brown Bean Pot

Over 6 3/4" tall at rim. Lid handle is just an eighth or quarter inch taller maybe. Over 9 1/4" wide handle to handle. Around 8 1/2" diameter at belly.

Crazing all over but worse inside. Was definitely used.

This pitcher is signed and dated on the bottom "1-94" "Jerry Brown" "Hamilton Ala".

Jerry Brown was an award winning folk potter born in Pine Springs, Alabama who dug his own clay from a pit in Detroit, Alabama. After spending a good 17 years out of it, Jerry Brown entered the pottery business for himself in the early eighties. Early on, the Browns (he worked alongside his wife at this time, though later his biological son and stepson) decorated with cobalt, originally with just simple rings like this one (earlier pieces had one, then later two). Jerry still mixed his clay with a mule and had at least 5 pieces of pottery on display at the Smithsonian (they may still be, or maybe there are more!).

Obviously a great item for any Jerry Brown collector. Also a great gift for any southern pottery collector, no matter their region, as the Brown family has made pottery for over 250 years in many states, including: Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi.

There does not appear to be any damage to the bean pot apart from the smallest chip order to the handle of the lid. But please see for yourself and inspect the photos for best details.

Careful packaging and fully insured shipping included.
