Antique match striker/advertising ware by Shelley order Late Foley for White Horse Whisky, 1910s., This is quite a rare antique ceramic match striker made between 1910 - 1916 by Shelley Late Foley.
This is quite a rare antique ceramic match striker made between 1910 - 1916 by Shelley Late Foley for advertising White Horse Whisky and used in bars, inns and public houses.
This is a weighty circular match holder with the striking part on the lower two thirds, where there is also raised embossed White Horse lettering. The top third is blue “crocodile skin” effect with the White Horse logo and badge and the central cup for the matches has a silver rim.
The Shelley Potteries of Staffordshire, England were earlier known as Wileman & Co and traded as The Foley Pottery. From 1910 - 1916 ‘Late Foley' was above the Shelley shield backstamp.
The match striker is in very good condition for its age - signs of use around the rim of the central matches cup and crazing in the glaze seen inside the cup and on the base.
A fabulous antique item, perfect for lighting candles (you need non-safety matches).
