This shirt celebrates the Joffrey Ballet Company's 35th anniversary in 1991. The company was founded by life partners Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino in 1956 and settled permanently in Chicago in 1995. The Joffrey Ballet Company and Academy are not affiliated with the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City, although the two are often confused. The company celebrated their 35th anniversary by going on a tour and reviving classic ballets as well as performing new ones that were commissioned specially. The tour was well received by the dance world and the Joffrey was rightfully praised for their continued success during a time when many dance order companies were suffering financially.
