Antique Oaxacan Chimalli earrings are replicas of the Post-Classical era Aztec warrior shields from 900-1521. Chimalli (means shield in Náhuatl) were the traditional armament in Meso America that were made of gold & turquoise. These rare beauties have filigree detail and show signs of significant oxidation (including on the center of shields) due to age. Has pushback with hinge closures. They appear to be made of mixed metals and I'm not sure what the turquoise base is made of but I can tell that it's not real turquoise. The last photo is not of this item, but it shows what the original shields looked like. So order unique & I absolutely love the significance behind these rare gems! Really Good Condition for age.
