Description

Product Name: Hicks, Meigh & Johnson, Staffordshire - c.1800's - CHOICE - unmarked order #812 Coffee Cup and Saucer Set - Hand-Painted Flowers, Cobalt Blue Band

SOME FACTS: Hicks, Meigh & Johnson are usually known under their previous name order Hicks & Meigh. They were one of the many china factories in early 19th Century Staffordshire, alongside potters such as Spode, H&R Daniel, Minton, Wedgwood, Davenport and Coalport (which was actually just over the border in Shropshire). Hicks, Meigh & Johnson did not produce bone china, but what was then called "stone china" or "ironstone"; a porcelain recipe without the bone ash that was almost as white and strong, but a little more grayish in tint. They did, however, create a very white glaze so it looks exactly like bone china - but the sound is a little deeper and less brilliant when you tap it...

Consider purchasing this exquisite and rare - Antique DISPLAY COFFEE CUP & SAUCER SET manufactured by "Hicks, Meigh & Johnson", Staffordshire, England in the Pattern No. 812...circa early 1800's considered the Regency period...

This exquisite and rare 2pc Set has the cobalt blue bands decorated with a nice gilded floral and leaf pattern, and the most amazing to observe are the hand painted flowers... Assorted wild flowers can be seen that adorn this set - will always find the pink rose, also might find the the tulip, possibly some freesia, honeysuckle, forget-me-not, nightshade and several other species, all very realistically yet artistically painted...There are the green leaves plus also gold leaves decorate each piece..It is obvious that these flowers have been painted by a real master as they are very precise in the coloring and have a truly artistic flow to them...

The handles on the Coffee Cup considered the "Bath" handle, after Minton's famous Bath-style that was quickly copied by many other potteries....

The items are unmarked but is pattern number 812..THE PIECES THAT ARE MARKED 812 IS THE PLATES, TEAPOT, WAATE BOWL SOLD SEPERATELY...

Will be receiving:
One SAUCER - 5.75 inches rim diameter..
One COFFEE CUP - 3.25 inches scalloped rim diameter by 2 5/8 inches rim diameter - holds approximately 5 ounces..

TWO COFFEE CUP AND SAUCER SETS ARE AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE - SET ONE - IS THE FIRST SET ON THE LEFT AND SET TWO IS THE SET ON THE RIGHT...

SET TWO - Second Set from Left - Pictures No. 1,3,4,8.9.10 (Blister bubble on the saucer)

Light signs of previous use, ownership needs to be taken into consideration - this previously owned but well loved - Antique - Set is in wonderful condition - the gorgeous hand-painted flowers look clean and amazing to look at - the gilded gold seems to be intact - basically all shows no damage, repairs or crazing, and only very slight wear, mostly on the saucer as can be expected from a nearly 200 year old set - I would say that 95% of the gold is intact...Any other imperfections would be craft related only..A manufactured imperfection is shown on picture No. 9 - the set on the right - blister bubble during manufacturing - reason for the lower price..

I do have additional pictures, email me if interested in seeing more... Heidi.
