Signed by the artist in the lower left corner and professionally framed, this scene entitled "At the Edge of the Wood" has an inviting yet mysterious tone.

Val McGann (1928- 2016) , a native of Ballinasloe, Co. Galway, Ireland, has a distinguished background as an artist. He studied at the National College of Art, Dublin and the Byam Shaw College of Art, London, ,and exhibited in Dublin, London, Boston, New York and Washington D. C. For many years the artist lived and worked in Kennebunk, Maine.

The print is signed and the inscription on the back gives us the title and date of this work, 1997. Perhaps this was purchased at the artist's studio as a print of a recent painting. It certainly does illustrate the detail which nature provides and the mysterious depth of the Maine woods.

Piece as a whole is 13" X 11" X 1", image size is 4.5" X 7". The image and framing is in excellent condition; there is some minor spotting between the glass and the matting (photo #7) which can be removed, but wanting to leave the piece intact I resisted giving it a clean-up.

The naturalistic style and simplicity of this image goes with all kinds of décor: contemporary, traditional, cottage, or country farmhouse.
Versatile and peaceful, a unique piece of art.
