Order Vintage Arctic Bay Seal Ashtray E 4-278 Koonook

Vintage miniature Arctic Bay carving of a seal lying on its back. While the seal is obviously intended as decoration to an ashtray, the attached oval bowl also reminds you of the qilliq (the traditional Inuit oil lamp used to light and heat in igloos). It is a major cultural symbol.

Inscribed Koonook and E 4-278 on the underside.

Pale green argillite stone with copper streaks so order distinctive to this area.

John Koonook is from Arctic Bay but I don't have an identified person for this disk particular number, but it is very likely a related family member.
