Much of the smithsonite from El Refugio is in the form of colorful, but thin crusts on rock. Occasionally the material is thick enough to cut spectacular, translucent cabochons. order The smithsonite on this specimen is highly lustrous, botryoidal, and compact. The color of this specimen is also a rich and vibrant pink, as opposed to the grayish-pale pink color normally associated with the material.
