About Zardozi
Zardozi is raised colored metallic thread work in intricate designs. Parts of it can be gold & silver toned with springs & coils. The art of Zardozi embroidery uses gold wire (zari). The process of making the gold wire (zari) is extremely intricate and involves heating the gold wire and a silver bar in the furnace to form an alloy. Gold-coated silver wire is extruded from this alloy and this wire when wrapped around a silk thread forms zari. Small patterns take days to finish. Large, extensive patterns are completed over weeks.
