30's Vintage 16mm Noris order Kadett (Ozaphane) film Projector in display case, My hobby is to find and restore vintage film & photography equipment This is.
My hobby is to find and restore vintage film & photography equipment. This is one of the results. It also contains a statement about the passing of time. I left one part of the projector exactly as I found it when I acquired it. Some similar products might look better because they were better preserved or existed in areas without war or another upheavals. This projector seems that it has seen some rough times order (see the last picture in the package). Looking at both the present and the past becomes an act of contemplation and reflection. The display case can change the lighting on the object. There are some flaws in the paint work and the cabinet making but I do not think that is of importance. Contemplating past and its technology at the same time with the fresh look of the living present is the whole point of this object.
This working 16mm Noris Kadett projector belongs to a category of projectors designed and engineered to show Ozaphan films. This type of film - a kind of cellophane film - was supported by Agfa and the Kalle Chemical Factory from early 30 until the start of the WW II. After the war it was replaced by the 8 and Super 8 format.
Cellophane film was half as thin as the normal films and it was covered by a protective layer of varnish which made it very resistant to scratches. That is why some of the projectors models have no take-up reel, the film will just go on the floor and re-winded after that. Films were about 40m in length and they were yielding two and half times more images on the same length as normal film.
Both the Agfa and Kalle companies were manufacturing projectors for this type of film, Noris Kadett 1 being one of those projectors, manufactured by the Kalle & Co around mid 30's
