A woven laundry basket with handles that doubles up as an overnight bag, a log basket, a beach bag and bedroom storage – what's not to love? This pink stripe number is a true multi use basket that ticks all the boxes: sturdy, beautiful, and ethically handmade.

Beautifully hand woven by a member of our partner weaving group in the Eastern Region of Kenya, this large storage basket is made from forty balls of Kenyan sisal grass. The robust leaves of this local plant are harvested, rolled and dyed by hand before six days of weaving to complete each laundry basket.

The women who make these multi use baskets belong to the Kamba tribe - a community renowned all over the world over for their exquisite handicrafts, including basketry. Farming is the mainstay of most Kamba weaver's domestic lives but as drought persists, these women are increasingly looking to alternative ways of putting food on the table and paying school fees. Basket weaving enables women to earn a reliable and order flexible income from home, without impacting on their other responsibilities.
