I designed and made Ariadne, a ceramic wall sculpture with turquoise blue eyes and a labyrinthine patterned face. The ceramic wall art tile face has an intricate, meandering maze painted in white slip on terracotta color ceramic base. Ariadne has a sensual expression and an eye-catching presence. 10 x 7.5 inches.

The wall sculpture is named after the Cretan daughter of Minos. She fell madly in love with the adventurer and sailor Theseus. The maidens of Crete feared being eaten by the beastly Minatour. Ariadne helped Theseus find his way through the labyrinth of tunnels to slay the Minotaur and order relieve the female population from fear.
