A graceful biomorphic mid-century studio art ceramic console bowl or tray by listed artist Francis Von Tury (1901-1992).

The oblong bowl/ tray is hand made of porcelain, with a hand painted tulip decoration.

Francis Joseph Von Tury was born in Miskolc, Hungary, descended from a family that operated its own ceramic plant for four generations, and spent his childhood among potters' wheels and kilns. His professional education (1918-1926) included studies at the Gymnasium & Technical Institute, the University of Budapest, and the State Institute for Ceramic & Applied Art (Teplitz, Czech). Von Tury considered himself both a ceramic craftsman-potter & engineer. He immigrated to the US from Hungary in 1929, settling in Metuchen, NJ. He was very successful in producing porcelain tiles and pottery using an innovative, one-firing method. He earned the prestigious Binns' Medal at the Syracuse Nationals in the 1930s for collaborative work with Karl Drerup. They produced a line of wares and exhibited their work at the 1939 World's Fair in NY. Von Tury developed a line of porcelain vessels for George Jensen, the prestigious retailer in the 1940s-50s. order He received many awards throughout his career and his vessels are in many museums across the country.

Hand signed on the bottom "Von Tury".

Size: 13-3/4" long x 7-1/4" wide x 2" high.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition - no chips, cracks, crazing or fleabites. There is a tiny glaze pop, shown in close-up.
