Icon on glass, painted in the authentic tempera technique, handmade frame, stained and finished with beeswax, protective cover on the back.

The particular elements of the icons painted on glass are the following: pure tones, bright colors, floral backgrounds, and rich geometric patterns in contrast with the simplicity of the characters. The technique consists in drawing first the contours of a representation with black ink, on one side of the glass. This part becomes the back of the painting so for this reason all the representations must be made in reversed angle. This made the final painting gain beautiful reflections. After the contours were laid down, light areas were painted first than darker colors were added in reverse order to a normal painting. Colors were made by order mixing natural color pigments that were manually grained, with egg based emulsions, ox gall and linseed oil. This recipe made it possible for the colors to become more intense. The magic beauty of this kind of icons was also given by transparencies in the glass. Framing was done with simple fir wood, which was regularly painted or stained in balance with the painting. The back of the glass was covered for protection with a thin cover. Handmade frame, stained and finished with beeswax. Painted on a 2mm glass, using pigments with egg based emulsions, having an increased durability over time (based on a personal recipe), it is covered with a layer of 24K gold leaf. On the back it has a protective cover of plywood, also stained, metal hangers included.
