In this listing we are pleased to offer an original brass and glass table lamp.
Made from a sober relatively small polished brass base and a larger ball round glass shade.
The shade has a light honey color and has a very original pattern in relief that can best be described as craters in various depth and diameters.
It looks a little bit like an inverted version of Helena Tynell's bubble lamps for Glashutte Limburg from the 1970s.
The glass is fairly thick and hence heavy and was mold-pressed.
The lamp is designed in such a way that all attention can go to the fascinating shade while the base offers an elegant touch.
The glass shade is fixed on the base through a ring around the bulb holder that has 9 arms that act as springs.
The lamp is not marked anywhere. We bought it in the Netherlands. We have no idea of the maker. Based on the origin, design and finishing of the lamp we date it to the period 1985 - 1995.
The lamp takes 1 E14 light bulb with screw type fitting. The bulb holder is still the original.
The lamp order still has its original bronze colored wiring consisting of a lamp cord of 135 centimeters / 53.15 inches, inline switch at 19 centimeters / 7.48 inches from the lamp and 2-pin flat European plug.
It is designed for a 220/230 volt network. With adaptations it can also be used in networks of a different voltage and or different plugs.
Measurements:
Height : ca 22 cm / 8.66 inches
Diameter of the shade at its widest point: ca 16 cm / 6.29 inches
Diameter of the base: 10 cm / 3.94 inches
Length of the lamp cord: 135 cm / 53.15 inches
Weight: 1066 grams.
Condition:
Overall good to very good condition
First and foremost: there is a 6 centimeters / 2.36 inches crack line straight in the middle of the glass shade. Because of the dazzling pattern of the shade this crack line stands out less than one would expect. Nevertheless it is there. We assume the crack line has technically weakened the glass but it still feels very solid. The crack line can be felt on the outside. We cannot judge for the inside as it is out of reach for fingers.
The crack line explain the relatively low price for this otherwise great lamp.
Apart from the crack line the shade is actually in mint condition and that includes the bottom rim that is pushed over the metal spring system every time a bulb has to be changed.
We could not detect any air bubbles or scratches.
The brushed brass base is in good condition without dents or deformations. There is however a bit of blemish in the varnish layer that was put over the brass to protect. As the base is very small and largely obscured by the glass shade it does not stand to notice much.
The blemish could be removed by polishing off the varnish layer but we leave that decision to the future owner.
The bulb holder and wiring are in fine condition. They have only very light wear consistent with age and use but are damage free and perfectly safe to use for decades to come.
