Council With "White Man's Horse". Plate XVII. 47th & 49 Parallels. 1859 Antique Lithograph. This is a wonderful sepia-toned very detailed lithograph from the 1859 United States Explorations and Surveys: “Ascertain the Most Practicable and Economical Route for a Railroad from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean.”...a railroad survey.

Artists were sent West to cover this huge area and record the scenes in order for decisions to be made regarding the routes the railroad would take. This shows tribes in conversation with scouts and officials, presumably of the U.S. Government.

This image is in wonderful condition. It has one tiny brown spot that seems to be a fleck of ink residue from the printing process. There is also a small area of iron stain in the lower right area of the margin.

It is archivally (acid-free) matted and safely mounted (NOT glued down). There are hand drawn sepia lines around the window opening. It is completely ready to frame. The window image size is 9.875” x 7.375” and the matted size is 16” x 14”. J. Bien, NY Lith. The frontispiece is included with all of the information.

Please note that this lithograph is much order crisper "in real life". This matted lithograph was too big for our scanner, so it was shot with a digital camera.
This vintage lithograph will be sent in a clear archival sleeve to protect it inside the outer packing.
