Spongeware can date to the early 19th Century with origins in England. This is an American example from the Turn-of the-Century give or take a decade or so.
Designs can vary greatly, but all are applied with a sponge, cloth, or in this case a stamp, to apply the chosen motif to a ceramic item. Some stamps were carved onto a order piece of potato! This particular piece is a Black floral sprig with Red & Blue flowers.
J.B. Stinson was most likely the proprietor of a General goods store or possibly a dining establishment. Any additional history would be appreciated. Souvenirs including bottles, jugs, & dishware were a common 'giveaway' by merchants as a way to advertise and promote their establishments.
