North Carolina “Sunburst” Militia Button - Bentonville order - Civil War, A North Carolina Militia “Sunburst” button issued to troops from that state during the Civil War It.
A North Carolina Militia “Sunburst” button issued to troops from that state during the Civil War. It has the “NC” at center surrounded by rays. The button is missing the shank as most are, due to the way it was soldered on. It was excavated from the Bentonville Battlefield in North Carolina. By 1865, the time of the battle, Confederate order equipment was about worn out. The button has a lot of wear but shows the “NC” at the center if held right. The Battle of Bentonville (March 19 – 21, 1865) was fought in Johnston County, North Carolina, near the village of Bentonville. It was the last battle between the armies of Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman and Confederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston.
The button measures 7/8” and comes in a 2” x 3” riker style display case.
