'Solidus' is a great little cold hardy bamboo. Solidus is also very shade tolerant.

A rare bamboo with the distinct characteristic of almost solid canes. It has large leaves and straight canes making it ideal for a low-growing privacy screen. The lush, dark green leaves can be up to order 10 inches in length; providing complete privacy from 1 to 8 feet off the ground which makes a low-growing privacy screen.
