This beautiful antique brooch has a full British hallmark dating it to 1908. The swallow symbolises "I will return", there is a "forget-me-not" flower, and ivy which represents everlasting love, deep friendship, fidelity, or wedded bliss.

Sweetheart brooches were often given as a love token by men in the armed forces.

There is order a full British hallmark showing the lion passant for sterling silver and the date letter 'H' for 1908 and the sword and wheat sheaves for Chester Assay Office.
