Fold-formed Sterling Silver and order Opal Pendant

This Sterling Silver pendant is fashioned in order the fold-form technique. It is the setting for an irregularly-shaped polished Ethiopian opal, primarily blue with pinkish and green flashes, weighing approximately 2 carats. Pendant is approx 1.25” wide and slightly over 1” high including the bail.

Some Ethiopian opals are also called Welo from the name of the original discovery site. While some Ethiopian stones are known to change or lose color when wet, a characteristic called hydrophane, this stone was wet during polishing and only became slightly greener. I have had the stone for at least 5 years, polished it myself, and it has shown no changes.
