Order Rococo Chemise/ Shift, 18th Century Shift

A light order shift as it was mainly worn in the 18th century under the stays.
It reaches down the knees and the sleeves go to the elbow.

The chemise was worn directly on the body and it was the only piece of clothing that was washed regularly, since the upper layers were to delicate to be washed.

Material:
The garment is made out of white cotton batiste or fine linen fabric

The cotton voile is very light and slightly transparent.

In the 18th century, undergarments were generally made from fine white linen. The use of cotton fabrics did not spread until the end of the 18th century.
