Order Jim Seagreaves redware bird whistle

James Christian Seagreaves (1913-97) of Breinigsville, Pa., redware hand built or hand modeled bird whistle. Jim was a machinist for Air Products and Chemicals Inc. before retiring in 1976. He had also worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. He order was a skilled potter with his own unique style whose work ranks among the most widely collected Pennsylvania German contemporary folk pottery. He started in the late 1950s and had a long potting career. Jim's wife Verna was a folk painter. This bird whistle is not a molded example, but hand built with a yellow glazed mid section, and red glazed head and tail. It is on an oval base. Mint condition, likely done in the 1970s or 80s. Signed "JCS" under base.
