A quality, old, hand made Batik from Pekalongan in Central Java. Tulis is the Indonesian word used to describe a batik that is totally handmade by "kanting" (pouring) the wax onto the material. It is not made by stamp or by mechanically printing onto the material. This is the traditional and most labour intensive way of making a batik.

Pekalongan is a famous batik centre on the north coast of Java where the Chinese first introduced synthetic dyes and floral motifs. This batik has a main panel that has a brown and white background and a multi colouted floral spray, while the rest of the batik has the same floral spray but a green background. It is in very good condition on good strong, soft cotton.

A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is 103cm high by 192cm long.
