Boch La Louviere Terrine, French Belgium around 1930, hand-painted, hand-formed handles, marked / signed
Wonderful, rare lidded terrine from Boch, Belgium.
The oval, flat shape makes it hard to believe what fits into this terrine.
Perfect for vegetables, potatoes and other side dishes. Also perfect for serving with asparagus and extremely appetizing with the light green!
The handle and the two handles of the terrine are naturalistically shaped by hand and painted a bright green.
A black line underlines the character of Art Deco, Streamline in the tableware, so to speak.
The surrounding dot and line decor in green-black and a minimal accent in yellow was hand-painted and is simply enchanting and unique.
The terrine is in a beautiful vintage condition, there are no chips and the painting is in great condition.
However, I would like to mention a few small signs of wear that do not bother at all:
A small mouse bite on the edge of the terrine (see zoom) and a few discolorations in the ceramic under the lid, you don't usually turn it around.
Of course there is minimal old-style craquelure, but only visible in the zoom.
The gloss and the painting order is just superbly preserved and it will be an eye-catcher on every board.
On the lid of the terrine there is a wonderful relief around the handle on the white body. Unfortunately, you can't see it that well in the photos.
The handles were shaped by hand and were meant to imitate vegetables, which only a few artists have mastered.
Painter number and manufacture stamp are on the bottom of the terrine.
