Our Lady of the Rosary or Virgin of the Rosary is a Marian devotion venerated in the Catholic Church, which celebrates the feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Most Holy Rosary on 7 October. Her feast was instituted by Pius V in thanksgiving to the Virgin for her help in the victory over the Turks at Lepanto. In 1716 Clement XI extended this feast to the whole Church. Leo XIII increased its liturgical importance with the publication of nine encyclicals dedicated to the Rosary.
