A nice hand thrown studio pottery compote made by northwest Washington studio potter Russell Hamamoto.
He was a student of F Carlton Ball and sold his wares at local NW craft shows and galleries such as the Old Town Potters gallery in North Tacoma which also offered F Carlton Ball's work in the 1980's. His work has been exhibited at the Tacoma Art Museum and he has been featured in Ceramics Monthly magazine.
This unique hand thrown studio pottery compote piece has a fine crafted rim and a flared foot.
The top is decorated with a circular design done in white, pink and blue tones.
The rim and underside have a dark tenmoku glaze showing black and rust tones.
This piece retains the Old Town Potters foil sticker on the rim.
The underside shows the white clay body and has the Hamamoto signature and Japanese cipher of the artist.
It measures 10.25" wide at the rim and is 3.5" tall and is in nice original condition with no signs of use.
This piece would compliment any northwest studio pottery collection rather nicely.
