Vintage 1941 Hawaii memorabilia - Trader Vic's order and Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Lot including:1) Trader Vic's postcard menu - "The Companies We Keep" by Bob Sigall a history.
Lot including:
1) Trader Vic's postcard menu - "The Companies We Keep" by Bob Sigall , a history of Hawaiian companies, states that this Hawaii location opened in December 1940. Four months later, Victor Bergeron ('Trader Vic') sold his interest to the co-owner, Granville "Granny" Abbott. I believe this is a very early menu since it states Granny Abbott on the front and rear. Later incarnations of this same menu state Granny Abbott & Fred Mosher. Trader Vic's moved from the 926 Ward Avenue address to the International Marketplace in Waikiki in 1967. Measures approximately 4.25" x 6.25" closed, see photos for views of both interior and exterior of pamphlet. Notes made on the front of state "June 5, 1941 Jack Tracy, Francis Conry, Bernie Conry, Day Jack arrived from Orient"
2) Trader Vic's drink menu - measures order approximately 8.75" x 9.5". The front and rear covers have separated from the raffia binding and there is some damage to page edges and corners. See photos for condition and views of cover, interior, and rear of menu. Noted on the front in pencil states "Please don't take away"
3) Honolulu Star-Bulletin - one page from the Saturday Magazine and Feature Section, dated June 7, 1941. Features article titled 'Pig and Poi in Paradise' by Helen McKee which outlines the history of Hawaiian celebrations and feasts, including the luau. This page is creased, as it has been stored folded, and you can see where this page was torn from the remainder of the newspaper. Please see photos to view condition and details.
