This is a gray-green round 8-inch bowl by Yoshiro Taya, a young Kiyomizu-yaki potter.

The thin black fabric is sprayed with gray Irabo.
The contrast between the green glaze and the black fabric is vivid, like the Botamochi of Bizen ware.

It has a simple texture that is rare in Kyoto ware. It adds color to the table without a sense of seasonality.

The rim is thin and sharp, so you don't feel the heaviness of the ash glaze.

It has bamboo slats for draining, and is perfect for eating soba, udon, order and somen.
The texture reminiscent of the mossy rocks of a mountain stream and the cool scenery will make you enjoy your meal.

It has the weight of a deeply flavored ash glaze, yet the sharpness of its thin construction is appealing.
It is also suitable for serving soba noodles, somen noodles, and cold tofu.

Ceramic History Yoshiro Taya

Trained under Yoshitaka Araki at Sumiyama, Kyoto in 1995.
Opened a kiln in Uji in 1999.
He has an established reputation for making vessels with unique expressions added to neat shapes.

Born in Tokyo in 1970.
Graduated from Kyoto Seika University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Art and Design in 1993.
