Antique Tibetan flint purse. order Mechak.

This is an interesting piece of Tibetan history known as a Mechak.

Its a wearable pouch that's base is made from yak leather and adorned with stamped/repousse metal & gemstones.

Mechaks are commonly used in Tibet to carry a flint stone & some sort of tinder to make fires.

These purses are highly decorated and are often carried by women as adornments, attached to the waist belt and let to hang like chatelains.

This piece is in very worn antique condition with a lot wear and tear due to its age (these pouches date from the early 20th century) and of course it's use order.
